West and Zampella Respawn
Remember the news last month of the bouncer-type guy rolling into the Infinity Ward headquarters and cleaned out West and Zampella’s offices. Then the lawsuits and counter-suits appeared, and then West and Zampella just disappeared- until now. They have finally Respawned.
On Monday, April 12, 2010, Jason West and Vince Zampella (creators of the multi-billion dollar Call of Duty franchise) announced the formation of Respawn Entertainment, a development company where they will own the rights to their intellectual properties. Do not fret about them having no back up because EA has signed as Respawn Entertainment’s official publisher.
With that deal EA is giving Respawn seven million dollars in seed capital because EA is investing in West and Zampella as individuals. The best news of all is that, although no one is saying what their first endeavor is going to be, Jason West did say “that it is going to be of the huge, summer blockbuster variety.”
Whether it be a military type shooter or a completely different genre, the excitement in the air is exuberant. What I like the most is what West stated in the press release: “Now that the team is in control of the games and brands, we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve.” Which basically means that we shouldn’t have to deal with the multitude of problems that plague Activision games (::cough cough:: Modern Warfare 2 ::cough cough::) without timely fixes.
Oh yeah, and if there is anybody out there looking to breaking to video games, the studio is currently assembling a world-class team of designers, artists and engineers. Applicants can submit resumes to email@example.com.
